Diamond Engagement Rings in Canada

August 12th, 2007

Most people might think that the bigger the rock the better, but in Canada, engagement rings are sized much differently. In Vancouver, the average person who recently got engaged or married selected the following:
* .78 F VS1, no cut info
* .80, no other info
* .79 D SI1 AGS ideal-0 Canadian
* .72 E SI1 AGS ideal-0 Canadian
* .43 F VS2

The actual trend for engagement rings in Canada is in the 70’s as the size of choice.
But it all depends on how you prioritize the 4 C’s. As you can see in the list above, there’s a lot of different approaches. Most people at PriceScope (and most experts in the diamond world) would say that Cut is by far the most important, and I would have to agree. My priorities were in this order: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat, and (as some Canada diamond propaganda refer to as “the fifth C”) Country.

Tiffany’s is known for diamond engagement rings in the United States and their counterpart is Birk’s in Canada. Some Canadians believe that Birks is a name and you pay for the name when you shop there. Birks is most likely considered the Canadian Tiffany’s because they also tout the blue box. Birks is a retailer and so the diamond engagement ring that you buy in Canada will have a hefty retail price. So while shopping for a Canadian diamond engagement ring, you might consider looking online for wholesale pricing or visiting your local jeweller.

In the end, most Canadians feel that it is most important to buy a diamond in their own country. And most think that if a Canadian gives you a diamond engagement ring and wants to spend the rest of their life with you, then the size of the diamond does not matter. It’s the size of the heart that matters the most.

Zales Becomes Successful Offering Engagement Rings on A Payment

July 4th, 2007

Zales is one of the most well-known names in retail jewelry. Morris and William Zale with Ben Lipshy founded the store in 1924 in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was a small store focused on providing exquisite merchandise and making it affordable by offering payment plans so that people could buy engagement rings, wedding rings, and other jewelry. By 1941, the company was so successful that they were able to expand to a dozen stores in Texas and Oklahoma.

During World War II, the company refocused its energy on additional growth opportunities, eventually acquiring additional jewelry franchise names and creating a powerful corporation that would continue to dominate the industry. In 1957 the first shopping center location opened, and today the stores are familiar sights in malls across the country. In 1998, the outlet stores were launched, offering fine jewelry at an even lower cost due to overstocked and discontinued styles.

Today, Zales Jewelry along with its range of affiliates is a corporation worth more than $2 billion with more than 2,300 associated locations across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This makes the company North America’s largest jewelry retailer, and the location where many couples can find their perfect engagement ring, anniversary ring, eternity rings, or wedding ring sets.

In addition to the familiar jewelry stores and outlets, the Zale Corporation also consists of Gordon’s Jewelers, Bailey Banks and Biddle, Peoples Jewellers, and Piercing Pagoda. Regardless of what type of jewelry you are interested in, you are sure to find high quality merchandise at a reasonable price at any of Zales affiliates, with friendly service to help you choose the piece to match your personality, budget, and style preferences.

Engagement Rings Website

July 3rd, 2007

Welcome to LeftRingFinger.com.  This website has been created mainly because I did not know which hand the wedding or engagement ring goes on.  I always wear a ring on my left ring finger and I have been single for a long time.  So I thought that I would dedicate this site to discussing various engagement rings.

Thanks for looking!
